Yes.
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) are integral parts of Australia’s commitment to supporting people with disabilities. The NDIS has been established to provide long-term, sustainable support, and has broad bipartisan support.
The continuation or termination of the NDIS and SDA would involve the collaboration of state, territory, and federal governments. The NDIS is a nationally coordinated scheme funded by both the Australian federal government and the governments of the states and territories. Any major changes, including discontinuation, would require agreement and legislative action from all levels of government.
Given the extensive benefits and support these programs provide, as well as their foundational role in Australia’s disability support system, it is unlikely that such a consensus to stop the NDIS and SDA would be reached.

Eligibility for SDA is determined by the NDIS based on specific criteria, including the level of functional impairment and support needs. Your NDIS planner can help assess your eligibility.

On-site Overnight Assistance (OOA) refers to the provision of overnight support services to residents with high support needs. SDA properties offering OOA typically include a separate space or room for the overnight support staff to stay in. This support can be provided to participants living in the same dwelling that contains the OOA space or in a near-by dwelling.
This space is equipped with necessary amenities to ensure the staff can rest while being available to respond to any needs that arise. The investor will only be paid the OOA amount should their property have the additional space.
-
Only dwellings in the Robust Design Category can have an additional breakout room. A breakout room is a designated space within the home that provides a safe and calming environment for residents. This room is designed to accommodate individuals who may exhibit challenging behaviours or need a quiet, secure space to retreat to during times of stress or agitation.
It is not a study or living/dining area but is intended to be dedicated and used to enhance learning, exploration or positively impact mood. Therefore, These rooms would be expected to incorporate features such as durable construction, safety features, a calming environment, controlled access and monitoring capabilities.
